SEARCH TIPS: ABSEILING & RAPPELLING

An abseil is a controlled descent by fixed rope down a vertical drop, such as a cliff face, wall or mountain side. Originally it was a rock climbing and mountaineering technique for descending the climb, but the activity has now also become an activity in own right, undertaken for the buzz it offers and/or as a charity fundraising challenge. It's also known as a rappel and the activity as rappelling. Stand alone abseils are now undertaken from a wide range of high points like tall buildings, towers and bridges as well as natural features like cliffs, rock walls, mountains and even waterfalls.
