FRANCE: Antique bookbinding in the Alps
A bookbinding holiday in France, with experienced bookbinder Marysa de Veer. The course is held in Les Carroz in the heart of the Haute Savoie area. The tutor's particular interest is bookbinding innovation and the use of technology combined with traditional craft skills. Her studio, Otter Bookbinding, uses specialist craft gold finishers, a paper conservator and antiquarian book restorers.
Accommodation on this holiday course is in two Alpine chalets with stunning views over the mountains, they promise luxurious accommodation and fine food.

ENGLAND: Print and bind, cycle ride/workshop
Artouride is a unique London cycle tour company who combine art and design tours with bike rides and hands-on workshops.
Their 'Print & Bind' two-day weekend workshop combines bike rides with sustainable, outdoor printmaking and bookbinding. Participants will spend one day cycling along the Thames river path, they will be introduced to the process of solar plate printmaking using the rays of the sun for exposure.
The second day will be spent at the London Centre of Book Arts where they will be introduced to several glueless bookbinding techniques.

If you live in southern England and within reach of Winchester, you might be interested in the Southern Bookcrafts Club as an alternative way to get bookbinding training and experience. The club was set up to help develop the crafts of book restoration and binding in the area.
They have their own bindery in Winchester and this can be used by members, either individually as required, or as groups during workshops and training. The use of the bindery gives access to standing and hand tools and bookbinding materials, members also have individual storage there.
The club offers training for members at all levels of experience and covering a range of subjects including: corners, headbands, endpapers, finishing, slip cases, sewing, onlays, boxes, repairing pages, cleaning paper, and leather dyeing.
