ENGLAND: Lee Valley VeloPark
The former 2012 Olympic and Paralympic velodrome and cycling venue has now opened as the Lee Valley VeloPark, and is packed with coaching, training courses and hire bikes.
Cycle training comes in four areas, firstly track based in the velodrome. The BMX track has been remodeled from that used in the Olympic Games making it suitable for all riders, from BMX beginners to professionals. Road racing is taken care of on the 1 mile flood-lit road circuit and the new mountain bike skills section offers 5 miles of trails offering the chance of world-class mountain biking in the heart of East London.
Training is booked as sessions rather than packaged multi-day courses, but there is nothing to stop you booked several of these as a block to make your visit into a short training break. There is information on the site about places to stay, offering everything from camping and hostels to smart hotels and B&Bs.

• Riders serious about their sport are interested in training at altitude to improve performance and get the edge on competitors, this article explains the science of altitude training and some of the different approaches to using it; including a comparison of the live-high/train-low and the live-low/train-high methods.
• In Dublin the Altitude Centre Ireland provides simulated altitude training (hypoxic training), so some sessions there, combined with some training on the Irish roads, could be a cost effective alternative to a mountain high altitude camp.

The training holidays section includes courses covering road race training and coaching, velodrome and cycle track training, mountain bike courses, cycling events (road and mountain), cycling sportive training and/or participation in the sportives. These are specifically for multi-day, residential camps and courses where accommodation is provided as part of the package; rather than single day activities.
