Rebecca Riddy,
Raleigh International expedition volunteer:
The
beginnings
Rebecca
Riddy has left her secure job in the UK to work as a volunteer translator
in Chile. After a long journey to an outpost in southern Chile she sent
her first message back home to the UK.
In
the south of Chile
Rebecca
made a long journey to be part of a kayaking group taking a group of venturers
up river to the Steffan glacier. It's an eventful trip and pushes Rebecca
to the limit of her endurance.
Back
in the main camp
Rebecca
recuperates from her kayaking experience and enjoys time 'in town' for
a while, whilst already planning alternatives for her stint in the 'base'.
Drawing
to a close
Rebecca is off to help with building a Fire Station, and trying to firm
up her travelling plans.
Travelling
in South America
Rebecca travels from Chile to Uyuni in Bolivia.
Potosi
in Bolivia
Rebecca is charmed by Potosi in South West Bolivia, and
concerned about impending strikes.
Sucre,
Bolivia
Visiting
Sucre in Bolivia, including an entertaining bus journey and a very thought
provoking visit to a silver mine.
Lake
Titicaca and Peru
Travelling around in Boliva and Peru, including a visit
to Lake Titicaca.
Travelling
Time!
Rebecca travels around Peru, including Macchu Pichu of
course! And then on up into Ecuador where she is singularly unimpressed
with Guayaquil.
On
to the Galapagos and then home
Rebecca's personal experiences of the Galapagos are enough
to tempt anyone. Apart, of course, from the experience of a badly equipped
and staffed diving company a lesson for the independent traveller?
Overall she sounds as if she's had a fantastic experience with both Raleigh
and the travelling afterwards. Thanks for sharing it with us Rebecca!
