Tew (82nd Anniversary of Armistice in Ypres and Somme)
we much
appreciated every aspect of the visit. All the team were very knowledgeable,
helpful and supportive as were other members of the party, many of whom
had been on the visit before. We can understand why they return year
after year.
We were very impressed
with the knowledge of Gordon (guide) and the wonderful way he put over
the situations the men found themselves in, when facing almost certain
deaths in the slaughter of WW1. Even the weather helped set the scene
on the Sunday when we visited the Somme. We felt privileged to be able
to visit the graves of one great-uncle and the Memorials to the missing
of my other two great-uncles.
The hotel was good
and everyone very helpful in all ways and we enjoyed the social side
of our visit. We look forward to joining a tour again next year.

Whatever we write
will never put into words the way we felt on the tour. We were both
so overwhelmed at the care and attention lavished upon all of us. The
team worked very had and we certainly did appreciate it. They got the
balance just right to take away the tears from a solemn occasion and
restore the laughter. We will never forget our first tour with Battlefield
Tours, we felt we were part of a big family and everyone was
lovely.

From the moment we boarded the coach we felt a special atmosphere, probably
due to the fact that we were all on the same mission, and everything
possible was done by members of the team to ensure that the Tour was
comfortable and that individually we discovered all we possibly could
about our relatives.
It was, of course,
very emotional at times but these times were interspersed with a laugh
and a joke. We both felt we learnt so much from people who were only
too ready to share their knowledge or to point us in the direction of
those who had the specialised knowledge we needed.
The battlefield
certainly came alive and it was an experience we shall never forget.
We hope we can repeat it before too long.

The boys
still talk about the two days on the battlefields. They have some great
photos and they remember well what they were told and where they were
taken.
Right now we are studying the Western front in year 11 and the Battles
of the Somme and Messines and Passchendaele really come to life for
those boys in my class who went on the tour, especially when we see
documentaries about Ypres.
