ARTICLE:

What we look for from a family friendly operator

family skiersA lot of ski tour operators and resort hotels, both large and small, claim to be child friendly – but what we're looking for here at Travel-Quest are the ones that go the extra mile. It's not just about a kid's tea time and a games room, we're looking for a host of other features that make it a real destination for families, particularly those with younger children and babies. Here are some of the things we look for:

• A day time crèche or nanny service, preferably in-house or nearby, and preferably staffed by childcare qualified English speakers.

• An evening babysitting service and also the availability of baby alarms so parents don't need to carry them out in their luggage.

• A dedicated play room for younger kids (with heaps of toys, books, craft materials etc.) and a games room/video lounge for older ones (with things like board games, jigsaws, table tennis, table football, TVs, DVDs, WiFi and games consoles etc.).

• Baby and toddler equipment provided (high chairs, baths, cots, car seats, baby sledges, baby carriers, all terrain pushchairs, baby monitors, sterilisers and baby crockery and cutlery etc.).

• Dedicated children's mealtimes and evidence they will cater for your child's particular dietary needs and preferences.

• A swimming pool, always a plus when you're travelling with older kids.

• A location close to the slopes, ski school and resort children's clubs.

• Rooms with 'room' even when a cot has been added, or the extra 'pull-out' beds have been pulled out!

• A ski school delivery and collection service so that mum and dad can get in a little more skiing themselves.

And a few of the nice extras we've come across are:

• Free nappies and wipes.

• Visiting children's entertainers like puppeteers, musicians, clowns, balloon modellers etc.

• Discounts on family packages!

And one we'd love to see:

• Aprè-ski spa sessions for mum and dad – with childcare provided, so they can really relax!
