We once listed some companies that offered snow biking
holidays, that is holidays mountain biking in the snow, but unfortunately
they are no longer offering this type of trip. We don't currently
know of anyone offering such courses, if you do please let
us know as we'd love to fill the category again! And if you
run such trips – then please apply for a
listing!
In the meantime you'll have to do it as a DIY holiday.
Get yourself some studded winter tyres and some warm gear and find
some snowy tracks and trails. The links that follow may help you
on your way:
Chicago
Bike Winter – their aim is to
'Encouraging Chicago All-Season Cycling!', but the site is full
of good advice about winter cycling and includes some local events
and workshops (Chicago, Madison & Milwaukee).
IceBike
– Why ride in the ice and snow? How to ride, where to ride,
the right bike, what to wear – an excellent resource for people
mad enough to want to snow bike.
Suomi
Tyres Ltd – You'll need some
winter tyres and this is a good source, Nokian studded winter tyres
for icy winter conditions. They have a big distributor list covering
a lot of the globe.
Joe
Clark homepage – this site has
an excellent article on what to wear and what bike and equipment
to use for winter cycling.
Wildfire Designs FatBikes – with ultra-wide 65 mm alloy rims and huge low pressure all terrain tyres this is the ultimate winter trail bike, designed for year-round use on snow, sand and other soft surfaces.
Calgary Mountain Unipsychos – a mountain unicycling club started by some Calgary riders to help create interest in this extreme sport in and around the Calgary/Alberta areas of Canada. They ride in the snow as can bee seen from the photos on the site, so if you want to take your snow biking to another level here's your route!
