Seeking relaxing cycling holidays in France
My partner and I would like to do some cycling in France, we're looking for a ready-made package where everything is set up for us, including bike hire so we don't have the faff of taking out our own bikes. We don't want crazy distances, just relaxing rides that take us through pretty spots where we can indulge in our other interest of photography. Any suggestions? Paula & John – Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK
TRAVEL-QUEST SPECIAL SEARCH REPLY:
You'll probably be better off on an independent or self-guided trip rather than a group ride as this will allow you to go at your own pace and take time out to do the photography at your leisure.
Our Cycling holidays section offers a lot of choice of such breaks in France; Cyclomundo offer leisurely self-guided cycling tours for couples in areas such as Normandy, Alsace, the Loire Valley, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Bordeaux, the Dordogne and the French Alps. High Point Holidays specialise in activity breaks in France and offer independent cycling holidays on both roads and cycle paths in the Beaujolais and Burgundy regions. Hooked on Cycling have several independent easy level French cycling holidays in areas such as the Dordogne, Lot Valley, Loire Valley, Provence, Alsace, Gironde, Burgundy and Corsica.
If you fancy the Lot region, Lot Cycling Holidays are specialists, with easy-paced cycling along quiet country lanes.
Rather than a tour from place to place an alternative might be to set yourselves at a base such as Le Moulin du Chemin, a small private hotel, which promises cycling holidays "of the tootling variety" on miles of undulating country lanes, through beautiful landscapes and picturesque villages. It's also worth visiting our cycling friendly accommodation section for this sort of centre based break, many of the places listed offer route, bike hire and even vehicle support.
If you did decide to go with a group Explore have 'backroads' cycling trips in Burgundy, Cognac, Loire Valley, Provence and a very scenic trip along the Canal du Midi.
