This Travel-Quest canyoning section lists holidays, vacations, short breaks and multi-day courses focused on canyoning – also known as canyoneering in North America, as kloofing in South Africa, or more generally as waterfall rappelling or gorge walking.

This exhilarating fun activity involves traversing a river bed through a deep gorge or canyon; following its waterfalls, rivers, pools and rapids downstream, using a variety of techniques which might include walking, jumping, scrambling, sliding, climbing, abseiling and swimming; and could make use of tarzan swings, zipwires and rappel lines and the like.

Canyoning or gorge walking can be tailored for most ages and can make a great family activity, it's also a very exciting adventure activity for groups, and is particularly popular for stag and hen weekends.

Coasteering is a very similar activity, undertaken in the sea and along coastal cliffs and is also well worth a look. And our watersports multi-activity section offers many more active adventurous means of getting yourself wet!

Instruction only or full package?

A number of the gorge walking and canyoning courses, holidays and tours included in this section are organised as full packages which include accommodation (and in some cases travel).
