These tours will be for poeple who want something more than a 'taster' session of a couple of hours; perhaps wanting to make a real journey by ATV or just to try out diferent or more challenging terrain.
Tips for selecting a ATV or Quad Bike Tour
• If you're new to the sport go on a supervised and guided tour where tuition from qualified instructors and protective equipment is included.
• On holiday tours take care in countries with less rigirous safety records, ask about instructor qualifications, what insurance the centre has, and about safety procedures.
• Know the type of ATV you're riding, and its limitations. Be aware that there are different types of quads, some are road legal (this may very from country to country), but others are for purely off-road use.
• Make sure your holiday travel insurance specifically covers you for quad biking, in some cases you may need to upgrade the cover.
What the abbreviations stand for:
ATV – All Terrain Vehicle
UTV – Utility Vehicle
DTV – Dual Terrain Vehicle
In the UK and some other parts of the world ATV's will also be known as quads or quad bikes, further defined as three-wheeler or four-wheeler.
Some qualifications to look for:
EASI – European All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Institute, a 'not for profit' organisation providing coaching and qualifications for ATV instructors and coaches.
BORDA – British Off Road Driving Association, the UK's only professional body dedicated to quad and off-road driving, awarding instructors qualifications from 'level 1' upwards.
ASI – All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Institute a US organisation providing training program for riders and instructors in ATV driving, safety education and awareness.
