HOLIDAY TIPS

Sculpture holiday and tour inspiration

sculpture by Sophie RyderIf you appreciate sculpture how about a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle? Promoting four inspiring art and sculpture venues within 20 miles of each other.

See sculptures by Barbara Hepworth in The Hepworth Wakefield in Wakefield; modern and contemporary pieces in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Bretton; sculpture by Henry Moore and others in the world recognised Henry Moore Institute, Leeds; and Leeds Art Gallery with it fine collection of twentieth century British art and sculpture.

In addition to fixed exhibits, each venue hosts guest sculpture exhibitions, the website offers full information about these, as well as visitor information on accommodation, places to eat and how to get there.

Get the kids interested in sculpture

sand sculptureThey've probably already had a go at sandcastles, so what about sand sculpture? Sand sculpture is constructed from just sand and water, but the most amazing creations can be made from these simple materials. Top 'sand-masters' can create enormous, inspiring and very intricate designs to an extremely high standard.

For inspiration look out for regular festivals like the Weston Sand Sculpture Festival or go to Sandworld in Weymouth (open March to November), a dedicated exhibition showcasing the work of world-class sand-masters, with exhibits changing every year. It's a great destination for both kids and adults, which also includes an activity area and giant sand pit where everyone has a chance to try sand sculpture for themselves.
