The garden contains over 800 medicinal plants; herbs, flowers and trees, all fully labeled to show the aspects of health they promote, their traditional uses, and the scientific and clinical evidence for any health benefits. It offers a wonderful sensory experience, full of intoxicating fragrance, the buzz of happy bees and the sounds of wind chimes and the bubbling brook. Visitors are encouraged to walk the chamomile lawn and release its heavenly, calming scent.
There's a Japanese-style garden with Tori gate, stone Buddhas, terraces, winding paths, fruit orchard, bamboo walk and sculptures. Also a croquet lawn, a giant chess set and a children's magic garden all add to the interest.
Courses – Visitors can also join various related courses from half-day workshops on flower essences to a 10-day foundation course to discover the healing power of plants and how to make herbal remedies.
The garden is open on Saturdays and Wednesdays from mid-April to mid-October. It's located about 15 miles West of Newcastle upon Tyne.
