WALES: Ty Newydd, storytelling from the start
Storytelling from the start is a one-week residential storytelling course for beginners, offering opportunities to learn how to prepare and perform traditional stories. The course examines ancient folktales, fairy tales and myths – the building blocks for every story ever told.
The course is one of several story courses held at Ty Newydd Writing Centre in Cricieth, Gwynedd in rural North-West Wales. Course accommodation is provided in Ty Newydd house itself, a Grade II listed building with guest bedrooms, libraries, large dining room, kitchen and conservatory. Participants will have a room of their own and meals will be homemade using local ingredients.
Learn to share and tell stories yourself or simply enjoy listening to experienced tellers. The travel-quest storytelling section lists holidays, retreats, workshops and multi-day residential courses that include storytelling, particularly oral storytelling and the telling of tales.
Storytelling courses and workshops teach the skills needed to become a teller, including how to select, learn and tell a story. Some may be focused on a particular audience or on stories for a particular use, be it with children, in business, in health and therapy, in museums and schools etc.; while others will be just aimed at a general audience. We also list holidays and breaks that are simply about listening to and enjoying stories told by experienced tellers in a relaxed recreational setting.
Courses focused on the art of writing a story will be be found in our creative writing section».
