While the therapy is most frequently used to treat medical conditions and for pain relief, on retreats you'll also come across non-medical uses, in particular 'facial' or 'cosmetic' acupuncture which aims to reduce the signs of the aging process, treating problems such as facial lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, enlarged pores, discoloration, sagging and puffy eyes etc. Acupuncture treatment is often described as a natural alternative to Botox.
We also list combined yoga and acupuncture retreats, the two working well together using energy channels in the body to aid wellbeing and promote healing. You'll also come across acupuncture in relation to weight loss, stopping smoking and infertility.
Professional training takes a number of years so you'll not generally find short recreational courses to learn the technique, although the Jin Shin style may be worth a look.
