Tows are usually by boat, but we also list opportunities with cable tows, or even a helicopter tow!

 

We also list learn to waterski and learn to wakeboard trips – weekend workshops and residential multi-day training camps for all abilities, from absolute beginners to those with experience looking to improve their skills. Wakeboarders: learn to carve, switch, ollie and get your tricks up to scratch; waterskiers, learn to slalom and jump, or have a go at tricks.

 

What's the difference?
Waterskiing is the older sport and one in which the skier is pulled through water, skimming the surface on one or two skis. It can include tricks and jumps and is undertaken on large lakes, broad rivers and coastal waters.

Wakeboarding is it's younger sibling and is now the more popular of the two. Essentially it's very similar to waterskiing, but using what amounts to a short surfboard with foot loops. It uses a mix of skills that start with waterskiing, but with touches of skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing and kitesurfing technique thrown in (see our watersports index» for more about these activities). And then there are the offshoots like kneeboarding or wakeskating ...
