The ancient Inca trail, to the roof of the Andes and ending at the mesmerizing ruins of Machu Picchu, is one of world's best-known trekking routes. So much so that there are several variations on the tours that include the Inca Trail's four-day trek – some include multisport, flight or rail options; or trip extension such as Lake Titicaca or Choquequirao. There are also some interesting, scenic and challenging alternative trekking options in the same area of Peru. Walking, trekking and hiking for solo travellers
Guided group trekking, hiking and walking holidays make a excellent choice for people travelling on their own. Joining a group of like-minded people in a common pursuit is always a good idea if you seek company on your trip. Walking with a small group puts you a prime spot to chat and get to know fellow walkers, or to fall-back and walk on your own, as you wish.
The options are:
1) To join a dedicated singles walking holiday where everyone is in the same boat and where you'll often be able to have a single room without supplements.
2) Alternatively many general walking holiday operators make efforts to welcome single travellers on their trips. On many trips single rooms will be available at an extra cost if required. But, for singles not wanting to pay more, the general policy is that the tour operator will offer to room single people with another solo traveller of the same sex. Often, on this sort of trip, informal group meals are arranged as well.
